CAER Researchers Win Esteemed Ceramic Society Award

The researchers from the University of Kentucky’s Center for Applied Energy Research (CAER) continue to showcase their innovation and brilliance as they clinch yet another coveted honor. This time, it’s the prestigious John E. Marquis Award from the American Ceramic Society, achieved for their ground-breaking publication.

Accomplished Authors Triumph

The coveted award was earned by Dr. Tristana Duvallet, a senior research engineer at CAER, and her co-author Dr. Bob Jewell, associate director of CAER’s Cementitious Materials Group, for their publication titled “Recycling of bone ash from animal wastes and by-products in the production of novel cements.” Originally published in the Journal of American Ceramic Society’s June 2023 issue, this unique research piece stood out among approximately 1,100 technical articles evaluated by a panel of five expert judges.

Award of Recognizable Stature

The John E. Marquis Award is no ordinary achievement. It’s an annual accolade given to authors who contribute a research paper, engineering work, or plant practice related to manufacturing in ceramics and glass. These works needed to be published in any of the American Ceramic Society’s publications and are judged on the value they bring to society and the industry.

Acknowledging Innovation

Speaking on the triumph, the elated CAER director, Dr. Rodney Andrews commented, “We are beyond thrilled for Tristana to be recognized for her novel work in this space”. He further exuded praise for their Cementitious Materials Research Group for their relentless efforts in developing new technologies and techniques to improve cements and concretes and was delighted to see their creativity being celebrated on a national scale.
