Lexington, Ky. – A significant milestone is being celebrated as Bill Bryant marks his 40th anniversary at the local television station, where he began his career as an intern in 1984. To honor his extensive contributions to journalism in the state, he will be inducted into the Kentucky Broadcasters Association Mic Hall of Fame on Monday.
In recognition of this achievement, Lexington Mayor Linda Gorton has declared Sunday, September 29, as “Bill Bryant Day” in Lexington. In her proclamation, Gorton highlighted Bryant’s impressive track record, stating, “Over the past 40 years, Bill has covered it all, from the police beat to natural disasters to inaugurations. His commitment to the community and passion for trusted journalism are directly tied to WKYT’s long-lasting success.”
Bryant, known for his role as a reporter and anchor, has played a pivotal part in shaping political reporting in Kentucky. His experience includes hosting the state’s longest-running weekly public affairs program, “Kentucky Newsmakers”, and serving as the host for Kentucky Educational Television’s “Comment on Kentucky” since 2015.
Former WKYT anchor Barbara Bailey, who shared the anchor desk with Bryant, praised his professionalism, saying, “He’s a great reporter, a great anchor, and a great broadcast journalist. We had a great time working together on serious stories. I was always glad to have him by my side.”
Through his dedication and integrity, Bryant has established himself as a respected figure within the local community. In recognition of his accomplishments, Eastern Kentucky University named him a “distinguished alumni” in 2000.
Sam Dick, who worked alongside Bryant for over three decades, reflected on his unique commitment to WKYT: “Bill has stayed close to home since he interned at WKYT. It’s hard to find someone like him who has made such a long-lasting home at one station while pursuing his craft with such dedication.”
As Bryant begins this new chapter, his legacy serves as an inspiration to current and future journalists in Kentucky, demonstrating the impact of staying true to one’s craft while fostering trust within the community.
