Lexington, Kentucky – Exciting news has come for the young people of Central Kentucky! The Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Bluegrass (BBBSBG) has just been awarded a whopping $125,000 grant from the highly regarded Chick-fil-A True Inspiration Awards® program. This generous funding aims to enrich mentoring opportunities and enhance the organization’s vital programs.
BBBSBG is a nonprofit mentoring organization dedicated to creating and supporting meaningful one-to-one relationships for youth aged 6 to 18 in the region. With an ambitious spirit, they pair adult volunteers, affectionately known as “Bigs,” with “Littles,” fostering connections that strive to help these young individuals reach their full potential. The organization operates across 14 counties in Central Kentucky, making a significant impact within the community.
The recent grant will play a crucial role in allowing BBBSBG to expand its mentorship programs and deepen its impact. Funds will go towards providing youths with invaluable access to experiences and support systems that can alter the course of their lives. The organization’s mission focuses heavily on offering mentoring and holistic support, particularly for children from challenging backgrounds, ensuring they have the resources and encouragement they need.
This remarkable achievement was made possible after BBBSBG was nominated for the grant by Joe Turner, a local Chick-fil-A owner operator, highlighting the close ties between the organization and the community. BBBSBG is proudly among a select group of 56 nonprofit organizations that will share in a total of $6 million in grants provided by Chick-fil-A, a brand known for its commitment to community service.
The True Inspiration Awards were established back in 2015 to honor the legacy of S. Truett Cathy, the founder of Chick-fil-A, whose values of caring for people and community service continue to inspire today. Over the last decade, a total of 357 grants have been awarded, ranging from $30,000 to $350,000, benefiting organizations throughout the United States, Puerto Rico, Canada, and the U.K.
Chick-fil-A’s initiatives resonate with social responsibility priorities that encompass Caring for People, Food, Communities, and the Planet. This alignment plays an integral role in fostering connections and caring for the communities in which they operate. It is partnerships like these that help initiatives like BBBSBG flourish, allowing volunteers and community members to come together for a common cause.
The connection between “Bigs” and “Littles” is not just about mentorship; it’s about building bonds that can last a lifetime. Volunteers usually spend time with their Little around three to four times a month, participating in various events and activities that guide, support, and uplift the younger generation. The idea is to make a genuine difference in the lives of these kids, serving as role models and friends.
With the influx of funding from Chick-fil-A, there’s a wave of optimism surrounding the future of BBBSBG and the young people they serve. The organization is looking forward to leveraging this grant to offer enriched experiences, vital resources, and support networks that empower youth in the region. This new chapter is expected to open doors previously unheard of and help instill hope and ambition in the future leaders of Central Kentucky.
As Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Bluegrass continues to enhance their programs and nurture future generations, the community stands by their side, ready to cheer them on! Exciting times are ahead for mentorship in the Bluegrass State.
