Lexington – A tragic accident claimed the life of a bicyclist last week after he was struck by a vehicle. According to Fayette County Coroner Gary Ginn, the incident occurred on November 13 along Lane Allen Road, near the intersection with Garden Springs Drive.
The Kentucky State Police reported that the bicyclist, a man whose identity is pending family notification, was initially listed in serious condition after the collision. He was transported to University of Kentucky Chandler Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries the following day.
As of now, the cause of the accident remains unclear. Lexington police spokesperson Hannah Sloan stated that the Collision Reconstruction Unit is currently conducting an investigation into the incident. Although details about the circumstances leading to the crash are still being evaluated, she added that it is unlikely any charges will be filed.
This incident marks the second fatal collision involving a bicyclist in Fayette County this year, with the first fatality occurring in August at the intersection of Mason Headley Road and Beacon Hill Road. According to data from the Kentucky State Police, there have been a total of 31 fatal crashes in Fayette County in 2023.
The community is urged to share concerns regarding road safety for bicyclists, as the number of incidents continues to raise questions about traffic conditions and driver awareness in the area.
