Lexington, KY — The Bellinger family is recovering after a serious car crash that occurred while they were traveling from Virginia for a weekend visit in Lexington. The accident took place on October 19 around 10 PM on KY 627, when another driver crossed the double yellow line, colliding head-on with their vehicle.
Autumn, 10, and her 8-year-old brother Damon were in the car with their parents, Amber Anna and Jacob Bellinger. Friends Dylan and Shyloe Marker received the tragic news shortly after the incident, prompting an emotional response from them, especially Shyloe, who recalled the moment, saying, “I jumped out of bed and I was crying… all I could say was just ‘the kids.’”
Autumn sustained life-threatening injuries, particularly to her neck and lungs. Shyloe noted the fortunate timing of the accident, stating, “By the grace of God did this all happen just ten minutes from the children’s hospital where they’ve been these last few weeks.” In contrast, Damon faced surgical challenges, needing both his kidney and spleen removed. While Autumn’s recovery is ongoing, Damon is reportedly improving and displaying more of his personality.
Both parents are also coping with injuries while remaining at their children’s side in the hospital. “You just push through and do whatever you can for your kids,” Shyloe commented about the daunting situation. Currently, Autumn cannot swallow, so doctors have implanted a stomach tube for her feeding.
The Bellinger family will remain in Lexington as they continue their recovery. With both parents unable to work during this critical time, friends have launched a GoFundMe campaign to assist them. “Can’t ever prepare for anything like this,” said Dylan Marker. “They definitely need all the help they can get.”
The community is rallying to support the family as they navigate this challenging chapter in their lives.
