Harrodsburg, Kentucky – An 11-year-old boy, Benton Lester, tragically died following an all-terrain vehicle (ATV) accident on February 28 in Washington County. The incident occurred on Deep Creek Road, where Lester was riding the ATV alone when it veered off the road, resulting in a fall into a culvert.

The Fayette County Coroner’s Office confirmed that Lester suffered from “blunt trauma injuries of the head and torso” and was pronounced dead at the University of Kentucky Medical Center. Despite being conscious after the crash and initially transported to the hospital by air for treatment, he sadly succumbed to his injuries later that evening.

Benton Lester was not wearing a helmet at the time of the accident; however, authorities have noted that a helmet would not have altered the outcome of the tragic incident. The Washington County Sheriff’s Office is currently carrying out an investigation to determine the specifics surrounding the accident, which has been deemed accidental in nature.

Benton was a resident of Harrodsburg, Kentucky, and was recognized for his enthusiasm for outdoor activities such as hunting, fishing, camping, and hiking. His obituary highlights his passion for collecting guns, knives, baseball cards, and other memorabilia, showcasing his vibrant young personality and interests.

Family and friends described him as a “great middle brother” among his siblings, portraying a bond in his family that will be deeply missed. Benton was an active member of Unity Baptist Church in Harrodsburg, where he contributed to the community around him.

In addition to his hobbies, Benton had aspirations for the future, saving money from livestock sales in hopes of purchasing a large truck someday. He was a former student of Perryville Elementary School, where he was fondly remembered by classmates and teachers as a kind and joyful boy. The school community has expressed its condolences, honoring the memory of a student who left a positive mark on those around him.

This incident serves as a stark reminder of the potential dangers associated with ATV riding, particularly in rural areas where terrain may be rough and unstable. Despite safety measures, accidents can lead to devastating outcomes, emphasizing the importance of vigilance and caution when operating such vehicles.

The community of Harrodsburg and surrounding areas is mourning the loss of a young life full of potential and promise. Benton Lester’s memory will be cherished by family, friends, and the broader community as they navigate this profound loss.
