Community Unites for Easter Egg Hunt at Jacobson Park for a Noble Cause

Lexington, Kentucky: Easter may not be upon us just yet, but it seems the festivities have already begun. This past weekend, a public park was transformed into a colorful landscape dotted with thousands of candy-colored surprises sent by the Easter Bunny himself. In a unique event, a local organization arranged an egg hunt for children in response to a rising issue in the community – gun violence. The event was aptly titled “It Really Does Matter Easter Egg Hunt.”

Jacobson Park Filled with Easter Cheer

Jacobson Park, typically the scene for peaceful lakeside walks and community sports, saw a different scene this Saturday. It was the host for a children’s event for a purpose, where traditional fun and games were combined with a heartfelt message. The park was converted into an egg-hunting ground with over 4,000 eggs hidden around for kids to discover.

‘It Really Does Matter’ Takes a Stand Against Gun Violence

The egg hunt was organized by a local gun violence advocacy group called ‘It Really Does Matter’. This particular endeavor was inspired by the loss of one of their own to gun violence, transforming personal pain into productive action. The event catered to children aged three to eleven, engaging them in a fun-filled day and indirectly helping create awareness about the need to curb gun violence.

A Day of Fun, Remembrance, and Solidarity

Alisa Hairston, the CEO of ‘It Really Does Matter,’ did not let her grief overcome her dedication to the community. She shared, “I lost my son to gun violence in 2021. He loved Easter and was a giving soul. With this Easter Egg Hunt, we wanted to give back to the kids and open this event up to the public.”

Children in attendance hunted for eggs, their faces lighting up with joy each time they discovered an egg. It was not merely an event, but a classic example of triumph over adversity, demonstrating the strength of unity in tackling societal issues.

Planning to Keep the Momentum Going

‘It Really Does Matter’ stated that it plans to continue its efforts with another community engagement event – a Fish Fry, scheduled for April 27. The organization has expressed hope that such events will not only spread positivity but also create awareness about the serious issue of gun violence.

A Message of Hope and Solidarity

Community events like ‘It Really Does Matter Easter Egg Hunt’ remind us of the powerful potential of unity in the face of adversity. Encouraging fun and solidarity through community-friendly events, while promoting awareness and solutions for societal issues, undoubtedly leaves a profound impact. The excited squeals of children finding hidden eggs, the sense of contentment within the organizers, and the silent message of solidarity floating around Jacobson Park makes one thing clear – it really does matter.
