In an exciting development for the University of Kentucky men’s basketball program, top-30 senior Acaden Lewis has officially announced his commitment to the Wildcats. This decision marks a significant boost for coach Mark Pope and the team as they begin to assemble their 2025 recruitment class. Lewis, a talented point guard, made the announcement on Saturday after considering offers from renowned programs such as Duke and UConn.
Lewis, a 6-foot-2 point guard from Washington, D.C., plays for Sidwell Friends School in Maryland. His impressive high school career includes recognition as the Gatorade Player of the Year for Washington, D.C., and he also distinguished himself during the Nike EYBL circuit, averaging 16.7 points, 4.9 rebounds, and 6.1 assists per game. He impressed coaches and fans alike with his strong court vision, scoring ability, and adeptness at creating opportunities for his teammates.
Lewis expressed that his decision was significantly influenced by the opportunity to start and play a crucial role in Kentucky’s future games. With the expected departure of current point guards Lamont Butler and Kerr Kriisa, he sees Kentucky as a place where he can make an early impact. “The opportunity is there to start and play a priority role early as their point guards are all leaving,” Lewis stated.
Another key factor was the strong relationship he developed with Coach Pope and his staff. “Pope is not only a great basketball mind but a genuine person,” he noted, highlighting the personal connection and the extensive discussions they had about basketball and beyond.
Lewis made his commitment on a Saturday, after completing a series of official visits to Duke, UConn, and Kentucky. His visit to Kentucky stood out as a final opportunity that ultimately swayed his decision in favor of the Wildcats.
Lewis becomes the third top-50 recruit to join the Wildcats in the 2025 class, alongside five-star guard Jasper Johnson and in-state center Malachi Moreno. His skills, which include a versatile scoring range and an ability to orchestrate fast-paced gameplay, are expected to seamlessly align with Kentucky’s system.
Lewis expressed a deep admiration for Kentucky’s basketball culture, stating, “BBN is absolutely crazy.” He noted the enthusiastic support from Kentucky’s fan base, which has already begun reaching out to him through social media. During his visit, he was greeted warmly, with many fans knowing about him and even celebrating his birthday with him.
In summary, Acaden Lewis’s decision to commit to Kentucky not only strengthens Coach Mark Pope’s recruitment efforts but also signifies a new chapter for the Wildcats as they prepare for the future. With his talent and support from both the coaching staff and fans, Lewis is eager to begin his college basketball journey in front of the passionate Rupp Arena crowd.
