Lexington police are investigating a shooting that occurred Saturday night, resulting in one fatality and another individual sustaining minor injuries. The incident took place around 8:52 p.m. on the 1500 block of North Limestone Street, according to Lieutenant Wayne Terry of the Lexington Police Department.
The victim, identified as Chance Gist, 25, was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead, as confirmed by the Fayette County Coroner. The second victim suffered only minor injuries and did not require hospitalization, Lieutenant Terry stated.
As part of the investigation, authorities closed a segment of Limestone Street, which is expected to remain shut down until approximately daybreak on Sunday. The shooting occurred near the intersection with New Circle Road and Rosemary Avenue, an area currently cordoned off by police.
Law enforcement officials were seen coming and going from an event venue nearby, where balloons were visible through the glass door. The surrounding area, including the venue’s parking lot and part of Limestone Street, was secured with police tape as investigations continued into the late hours of Saturday.
Lieutenant Terry noted that officers were still working to determine the circumstances leading up to the shooting, and as of midnight, no suspects had been apprehended. The investigation remains active, with police appealing for any witness information to aid in their inquiry.
As the events unfold, local residents and businesses are advised to stay clear of the area while authorities conduct their investigation.
