Lexington Welcomes Second Location of Big Kahuna Hawaiian BBQ
Lexington is set to add a new culinary gem to its dining scene as Big Kahuna Hawaiian BBQ prepares to open a second location. Owner Harrison Ginsberg has announced plans to launch this new establishment on Clays Mill Road, aiming for a February opening.
The new restaurant will be located at 3101 Clays Mill Rd., situated in a former dress shop currently undergoing renovations to accommodate a kitchen. This expansion comes alongside the original location at 904 Liberty Rd., which has been serving the community since May 2021. Ginsberg confirmed that the Liberty Road location will remain operational.
Big Kahuna Hawaiian BBQ is renowned for its plate lunch style menu, featuring highlights such as Spam Musubi—fried Spam and rice wrapped in seaweed—and Katsu fried pork with rice and macaroni salad. Ginsberg plans to keep the same popular menu at the new site, with potential additions including a vegetarian dish and another chicken item.
With its modest size of approximately 700 square feet, the new location will provide indoor seating along with outdoor options on a large patio available during pleasant weather. Nearby, other culinary establishments such as DY Market Asian Grocery & Seki Restaurant, North Lime Coffee & Donuts, Crank & Boom Craft Ice Cream, and Bluegrass Baking Co. create an appealing food hub.
Big Kahuna’s menu is characterized by a delightful fusion of Asian and Hawaiian cuisine, known for its sweet and mildly spicy flavors, accompanied by hearty portions designed to satisfy. The restaurant offers a variety of grilled options, including pork, Spam, fish, and shrimp, along with a burger topped with grilled pineapple, bacon, Swiss cheese, and Hawaiian barbecue sauce. Most items are priced around $10, making it a favorite among locals seeking flavorful meals at affordable prices.
Operating hours for the new restaurant are projected to be from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily, excluding Mondays when both locations will be closed. With growing demand from customers on the south side of Lexington, Ginsberg expresses enthusiasm about the prospect of serving new patrons while continuing to bring authentic Hawaiian flavors to the community.
