Community Blood Drive Scheduled for November 8 in Salyersville to Boost Winter Supplies

Salyersville, KY – A vital blood drive is scheduled for November 8, 2023, aimed at bolstering local supplies ahead of the winter season. Organized by the Kentucky Blood Center (KBC), this community event will take place at the First Baptist Church Fellowship Hall from 1:00 PM to 5:30 PM.

As winter approaches, the potential for weather-related disruptions to blood donations increases, along with a rise in seasonal illnesses. This makes it especially crucial for local hospitals to maintain a steady supply of lifesaving blood products. The upcoming drive seeks to mobilize community donors to help meet this urgent need.

All donors at the event will receive a unique T-shirt featuring the slogan “Eat, Donate, Hibernate, Repeat,” a playful nod to the essential aspects of winter. To contribute, participants must meet certain eligibility requirements, including being at least 17 years old (or 16 with parental consent), weighing a minimum of 110 pounds, and being in general good health. Donors are also required to present a photo ID.

Organizers encourage prospective donors to make appointments, though walk-ins are welcome. Those interested can schedule their donations by visiting the KBC website or by calling their dedicated helpline.

“Blood is an everyday need that cannot be manufactured,” remarked a KBC spokesperson. “To serve local patients effectively, we rely on community dedication and support.” The blood collected from this drive will help furnish over 70 hospitals statewide, making each donation vital to patient care.

Future blood drives in the region will help sustain the necessary blood supply throughout the colder months. The community is urged to participate in this lifesaving initiative to ensure that no one in need of blood goes without this essential resource.
