Lexington, Ky. – A family narrowly escaped disaster on Saturday morning after a fire erupted in their home, thanks largely to their quick-thinking dog. The incident occurred just before 6 a.m. in the 100 block of Hazel Avenue, as reported by local fire officials.

The Lexington Fire Department responded swiftly to the emergency call, arriving to find flames engulfing the house. Fortunately, the family was outside at the time, thanks to their dog, who alerted them to the danger by barking. “He apparently was the one that woke the family up barking whenever the house was on fire and got them up. We were glad to be able to find him in good shape,” stated Battalion Chief Matt Galati.

Firefighters immediately conducted a search of the property and were relieved to locate the family’s dog unharmed amidst the chaos. The rapid response from the fire department ensured that the fire was extinguished without further damage to nearby structures.

As a result of the fire, however, the family has been displaced from their home. Fire officials are currently investigating the cause of the blaze but have not released any further details at this time.

The incident serves as a stark reminder of the critical role pets can play in household safety, and the family is grateful to their furry companion for alerting them to the danger. The Lexington community is rallying to support the family during this challenging time.

Further updates will be provided as the investigation continues.
