Lexington, Ky. – A significant shift in weather patterns is anticipated as a cold front approaches the area this evening. Residents can expect a roller coaster of temperatures as the week progresses, starting with unseasonably warm conditions followed by a cooler weekend.
Today will feature warm, breezy weather, with highs reaching the mid- to upper 70s. However, a cold front is set to move through tonight, dropping temperatures significantly into the upper 30s and low 40s by Thursday morning. Afternoon temperatures on Thursday will feel much more like fall, only reaching the low-to-mid 60s.
A brief warm-up is forecasted for Friday, as temperatures could soar into the upper 70s, potentially nearing 80 degrees. This increase in temperature is expected ahead of a stronger cold front that may bring light rain through Friday evening. No heavy rainfall is anticipated, with showers likely holding off until the overnight hours.
As the cold front moves in late Friday into Saturday, temperatures will dip again, struggling to exceed the low-to-mid 60s throughout the day on Saturday. A few scattered showers may linger across the southern half of the state, alongside clouds that will contribute to the cooler temperatures.
Sunday is expected to be similarly cool, with morning temperatures in the upper 30s and afternoon highs barely reaching the low 60s. However, a warming trend is predicted for the start of next week, with temperatures gradually climbing back into the mid-70s by Tuesday and Wednesday.
According to meteorologists, this warm spell is likely to extend until at least Halloween, falling on October 31. There is potential for a potent cold front and increased moisture later next week, leading to heightened chances of rain and storms.
The month of October has seen exceptionally dry conditions, with all official climate locations—Frankfort, Jackson, Lexington, and London—receiving less than a quarter inch of precipitation so far. As the current forecast shows little rainfall in the immediate future, this October is on track to be one of the driest on record.
