Lexington Hosts Clean Slate Expungement Clinic and Job Fair on October 30 to Help Residents Clear Criminal Records

Lexington, Ky. — Mayor Linda Gorton, alongside local community partners, has announced the upcoming Clean Slate Lexington Expungement Clinic and Job Fair, aimed at assisting individuals in expunging their criminal records. The event is scheduled for October 30 at the Central Bank Center, offering residents a chance to clear qualifying misdemeanors and felonies from their records.

“Our Clean Slate Lexington Expungement Clinics have given a second chance to many people in our community,” said Gorton. “These clinics help our residents expunge their records from low-level, non-violent offenses. They can also obtain basic resources, and open doors to new opportunities.”

Expungement can alleviate barriers concerning voting, employment, education, and housing. Since the first workshop in April 2022, the initiative has successfully provided expungement-related services to over 1,300 individuals.

Tiffany Brown, the city’s Equity and Implementation Officer, emphasized the importance of the expungement process. “It not only clears a person’s record but also restores dignity and hope. It is a chance to move beyond mistakes of the past, and to pursue new opportunities without the weight of a criminal record,” she stated. Brown highlighted that the initiative plays a vital role in addressing systemic inequities, particularly those affecting people of color and financially disadvantaged residents.

Expungement reform has been a continuous effort in Kentucky for over 30 years. The state legislature has recently increased expungement eligibility, with more details available at the event. In addition to expungement services, employers will be present to conduct job interviews. Local workforce programs, including WORK-Lexington and the Kentucky Career Center, will also offer resources for job seekers.

Those interested in participating in the Clean Slate Expungement Clinic and Job Fair must register and undergo a background check. The event will take place from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Wednesday, October 30, at the Central Bank Center, located at 425 West High Street.

For further details and registration, residents are encouraged to visit the city of Lexington’s official website.
