Major Repaving Project to Cause Lane Closures on I-64 and I-75 in Lexington Starting Sunday Night

Lexington, Kentucky — A significant repaving initiative is set to begin on the city’s major interstates, leading to multiple lane closures starting Sunday night. The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet announced that this project will affect both Interstate 64 and Interstate 75.

The lane closures will commence at 7 p.m. on Sunday and will continue nightly through Thursday. Specifically, one lane in each direction will be closed between mile marker 113 (Paris Pike exit) and mile marker 115 (Newtown Pike exit). As the work progresses, contractors will alter which lane remains closed, with double lane closures initiated when necessary after 8:30 p.m.

Work is scheduled to begin each evening at 7 p.m. and will conclude each morning by 6 a.m., thus minimizing disruption during the daytime hours. This construction is part of the larger I-75 widening project, aimed at alleviating congestion and enhancing safety over a two-mile stretch of the interstate.

Once completed in 2026, this project will significantly improve traffic flow between the Newtown Pike exit and the Paris Pike exit, addressing long-standing concerns over both congestion and safety in the area.

Motorists are advised to plan ahead for potential delays and to exercise caution when traveling through the construction zones. The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet is committed to keeping the community informed about these necessary infrastructure improvements.
