LEXINGTON, Ky. — The Appalachian Regional Healthcare Foundation is mobilizing efforts to assist victims of Hurricane Helene. Executive Director Angela Bailey expressed the urgency of the initiative, stating, “We know first-hand what it’s like to have a devastating flood in your community.” The organization is reaching out to the public for volunteers to help pack essential supplies for those affected by the hurricane.
The call for assistance comes as Bailey reflects on the support received by Eastern Kentucky during past flooding incidents. She noted, “We were so blessed with the generosity of others during our time of need, and it just made sense for us to do something for those folks who are now in need.” This sense of community compassion has propelled the foundation to respond actively to the crisis in neighboring regions.
The organization is currently seeking volunteers who can assist in packing donations that will be shipped out at the start of next week. Tasks include building boxes, filling them with supplies, and preparing them for shipment. “We are working with other non-profits on the ground, who know exactly what victims need now,” Bailey emphasized, highlighting the collaboration aimed at ensuring that aid is relevant and impactful.
Bailey further asserted, “We know that when we were on the ground, we knew what our community needs. So, we are working with others to help the relief happening.” This strategic approach aims to deliver meaningful assistance rather than providing generic supplies.
