Lexington, Ky. – A chilly Tuesday is in store for local residents as the area experiences mostly cloudy skies accompanied by intermittent rain showers. The best opportunity to witness these showers will arise during the midday and afternoon hours.
Temperatures are expected to remain in the low-to-mid 50s, with conditions falling to the upper 40s during the rain. In addition to the rainfall, there is a potential for rumbles of thunder and even some ice pellets in areas affected by the thunder showers.
As night falls, the skies will attempt to clear, leading to cooler temperatures dropping into the low-to-mid 30s. A Frost Advisory has been issued for the entire region as temperatures near the freezing point. Residents are urged to protect any sensitive outdoor plants from the impending cold.
Weather officials anticipate temperatures dropping close to daily record lows across central and eastern Kentucky. Notably, the record low for October 16th in Lexington stands at 32°F, with current forecasts predicting a drop around this number as the day transitions to Wednesday.
The forecast for Wednesday indicates slightly improved conditions with more sunshine compared to Tuesday, although temperatures will still be chilly, peaking in the mid-50s. A light breeze may make it feel even cooler.
Expect another widespread frost late Wednesday night into Thursday, as clear skies, light winds, and dry air contribute to lowering temperatures into the upper 20s to low 30s by Thursday morning.
Fortunately, a warm-up is on the horizon, beginning Friday morning with patchy frost. By Friday afternoon, temperatures could rise to the mid-to-upper 60s. This trend of warming is expected to continue through the weekend, with afternoon highs returning to the low 70s on both Saturday and Sunday.
The upcoming weekend looks particularly inviting for those attending events at Keeneland, coinciding with the third weekend of the Fall Meet, under primarily dry and warm conditions. Weather forecasts from the Climate Prediction Center indicate a prevailing trend of above-average temperatures and below-average precipitation for the region as we move further into the week.
