Lexington, Ky. — A family is in mourning following the tragic loss of 38-year-old James Edward Reed Jr., who died in a motorcycle crash early Tuesday morning. The incident occurred around 7:19 a.m. on Versailles Road, between Wellesley Heights Way and New Circle Road. Reed succumbed to “multiple blunt force and penetrating traumatic injuries” after a vehicle struck him, according to the Fayette County Coroner’s office.
Reed, known for his vibrant personality, was a devoted father, son, brother, fiancé, and friend. He leaves behind a 16-year-old daughter, a son, a bonus son, as well as his parents and siblings. His mother, Bobbie Hodges, described him as a dependable man with an infectious laugh. “He was always mischievous. Always laughing,” she reminisced, expressing the profound grief she felt upon learning of his death.
His fiancé, Ashley Crane, shared her shock and sorrow after receiving news from Reed’s friends, realizing something was amiss when she could not reach him by phone. “I knew something had happened,” she said. Friends remember Reed not just for his warmth but also for his unique role at Wicked World Scaregrounds, where he embodied a character known as “Jekyll,” a scary clown that entertained and frightened visitors alike.
Reed’s family members are now advocating for traffic safety, hoping to prevent similar tragedies. Bobbie Hodges stated, “There’s no way this person could not have seen James. We both had these massive amount of lights under our bikes.” She urged drivers to be more cautious, saying, “If you’re driving a car, remember you’re not the only person on the road.”
The family is now focusing their efforts on securing a traffic light at the dangerous intersection where Reed lost his life. Their aim is to ensure no other family has to endure the heartache that they have experienced. “Take a second look before you make a move,” Hodges implored, highlighting the importance of awareness on the roads.
As the community mourns the loss of a beloved figure, those close to Reed are united in their mission to enhance road safety, hoping that changes will come in honor of a man who brought joy to many.
