Local Woman Returns to Liberia with Supplies for Students in Need

Lexington, Ky. – A local woman is set to make her third trip to Liberia, bringing much-needed school supplies and food to students in the capital city, Monrovia. Bobbie Mobley has dedicated the past five months to collecting supplies from the central Kentucky community.

Mobley will depart on Thursday, packing suitcases filled with essential items. In total, she has already shipped over six large boxes containing supplies to the students. This initiative began after her initial visit to Liberia for a wedding, during which she developed a strong connection to the country and its people.

During her second visit, Mobley witnessed firsthand the dire conditions in local schools. “Just seeing the children sitting in classrooms with no books, no pencils,” she reflected, instilling a sense of urgency in her mission to aid these children. Recognizing the critical shortages, she brought supplies with her on that trip.

In an emotional exchange, the principal of a school Mobley visited expressed deep appreciation for the resources she provided, suggesting the school be named after her. Instead, Mobley chose to honor her mother, resulting in the establishment of the Nancye T. Mobley International Academy.

Mobley emphasized the disparity in access to basic educational tools, noting, “It’s humbling because of the things we take for granted and to see the joy on their faces to just have a book.” Her commitment to improving educational conditions for these children continues over thousands of miles.

With plans to initiate another round of supply collection in January, Mobley encourages the community to participate in her cause. Those interested in contributing can find additional information about her foundation on the school’s Facebook page. This endeavor highlights a growing effort to bridge the gap in educational resources and support for students in Liberia.
