Jessamine County Shelter Hosts Open House with UK Baseball Players

Jessamine County held an open house event at the Jessamine County Animal Care & Control Shelter on Saturday, featuring a special guest appearance by some players from the University of Kentucky Baseball team. The event aimed to showcase the shelter’s animals and promote adoption, as the facility is currently at full capacity.

Executive Director Marcie Pendleberry expressed her appreciation for the turnout. “I mean this is amazing,” she stated. “You’re kinda weary when you start this; will there be one person or 100? But it so far has been great, and it’s early too. We thank God the UK baseball team is here too. Yay!”

The open house not only offered an opportunity for fans to engage with the baseball players but also helped raise awareness about the animals waiting for homes. Shelter officials highlighted the need for adoptions, stressing the importance of finding homes for the many animals in their care.

Among the animals featured was Maui, a shepherd mix who has been at the shelter for over a year and a half. Maui was surrendered multiple times by previous owners, and shelter leaders emphasized the need for a loving family to provide stability and companionship.

Visitors are encouraged to take advantage of the free adoption event scheduled for Monday, September 23, which aims to reduce the number of animals in the shelter. Such initiatives are crucial, especially given the current full capacity at the facility.

The event brought together local residents, animal lovers, and the UK baseball team, fostering a sense of community while providing much-needed support for the shelter. For those interested in adopting or learning more about the Jessamine County Animal Care & Control Shelter, further details are available through their official channels.
