Kentucky Residents Mobilize for Flood Relief Efforts in Tennessee and North Carolina
Jackson, KY – Kentuckians are uniting to assist their southern neighbors following catastrophic flooding that struck Tennessee and North Carolina. The support network is actively gathering supplies and dispatching teams to areas severely impacted by the disaster.
This current crisis echoes the widespread destruction experienced in Kentucky during the devastating floods of July 2022. “Seeing that anguish and angst. Knowing that it is playing out 10, 20-fold, it is very surreal,” said Brittany Adams of the Kentucky River Medical Center, which serves as a key drop-off site for supplies directed to North Carolina.
Eric Gibson from Kentucky Emergency Management emphasized the urgent need for assistance. “This resembles the disaster we went through in 2022. Those states are really in a time of need right now,” he stated. Furthermore, local efforts include filling trailers with essentials such as water, baby diapers, and nonperishable food.
On Saturday, volunteers are set to deliver these supplies to the affected areas. Teams from various organizations, including Kentucky Baptist Relief, are preparing for immediate deployment to assist with cleanup and recovery efforts. Details of their assignments will be finalized on Tuesday.
The Kentucky National Guard is also participating, focusing on search and rescue operations as needs arise. “We are doing our very best to send any resource that we can,” Gibson added, reflecting the spirit of reciprocity. Notably, Tennessee and North Carolina provided substantial support to Kentucky during its own time of crisis.
Residents wishing to contribute can drop off supplies at the Kentucky River Medical Center located on Jett Drive in Jackson. Additional collection sites include the London Police Department and city hall. Requested items specifically include bottled water, baby formula, pet food, flashlights, and camping stoves. Organizers advise against donating any clothing or unrequested items.
Efforts are underway to monitor and adapt resources based on ongoing needs to ensure that aid efforts are effective and targeted. With Kentucky’s quick mobilization, it is evident that the bonds of community and support remain strong during these challenging times.
