Nicholasville, Ky. — A family in Jessamine County is seeking community support following a devastating fire at their home in the Tates Creek Estates neighborhood on September 17. The incident occurred early in the morning when fire engulfed the residence, leading to a tragic loss.
Ashley Halderman, a neighbor, reported noticing the chaos from her porch as fire trucks and ambulances responded. She recounted the harrowing experience of the residents: “They woke up, not being able to breathe from the smoke. Then, she opened the door to figure out what was going on and just saw flames.”
At the time of the fire, Kelley Clouse and Jeremy Thacker were both at work. Although two family members living in adjoining apartments evacuated safely—William Thacker and Lori Corsin—44-year-old David “Joey” Morrow tragically lost his life to the flames.
The aftermath has left the family in dire need of basic necessities. On the first night following the fire, Halderman noted they had no shelter and had to sleep in the back of a car. Currently, Kelley and Jeremy are staying in a hotel, while Lori and William are residing in a tent on the property.
In response to the disaster, Halderman and other neighbors are mobilizing to gather support. “Me and another girl were just going around asking, can we get clothes? Can we get some food? Can we get a tent? Blankets? Something for you to sleep in?” she stated.
The community is rallying to provide assistance through donations of clothing, food, and shelter supplies. Halderman has also set up a GoFundMe page to help the family secure essential items and cover hotel expenses. “Any kind of help. Donations. We have set up a GoFundMe to help get them items they may need, as well as the funds to try and get them into a new place,” she added.
Donations can be dropped off at Printing and Embroidery located at 121 Commerce Drive, Nicholasville, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday. The family is specifically requesting non-perishable food items, totes, laundry baskets, water, and both men’s and women’s clothing.
In a somber development, visitation for David Morrow will take place at Betts and West Funeral Home in Nicholasville on Saturday, September 28, from 1 to 3 p.m.
