Hundreds of People Flock to Tattoo Expo in Downtown Lexington

Lexington, Ky. – The inaugural Lexington Tattoo Expo kicked off at the Hilton Lexington/Downtown attracting numerous enthusiasts and artists not just from the Commonwealth, but from across the nation.

Diverse Array of Tattoo Artistry

The event served as an avenue for showcasing varying artistry from celebrated artists known for their online presence. It offered those keen on collecting tattoos an opportunity to get their preferred designs from their favorite artists without having to leave the state. Expo emcee, Tyler Casey, expressed enthusiasm about the experience, “A lot of these artists are well-known on the internet, well-known on Facebook, all that, and this is their chance to, if they’ve seen their work and want something from them, this is their chance to get them and not have to leave the state.”

Exchange of Ideas and Techniques

Justin Stamper, another participating artist, shared his excitement about learning from others more experienced in the industry, “It’s just very nice to see other people who may have been in the game a lot longer than I have and get to pick their brain a little bit.”

Spotlight on Local Artistry

Interestingly, the event also featured local artists from Lexington who often go unnoticed in their own community. The Family Business Tattoo Parlour, one such local shop, made its presence known during the expo. With its grand opening due in two weeks, the shop assistant, Lea Kemper, shared that the expo was a favorable platform for shops and artists who are often hidden, “A lot of people didn’t have any idea that we were out here or even any of these artists were out here.”

Tackling the Tattoo Stigma

Beyond providing an opportunity for these artists to widen their clientele, the event aimed at eradicating any societal stigmas related to this form of art. Painting a more respectable image of tattoo artists and enthusiasts, Stamper added, “You know they have this idea that people with tattoos are kind of rough around the edges, but here, we kind of like to stop that stigma and open it up to the public so they can come in and get a good view or understanding of what we like to do here.”

Tattoos and the Public Perception

The event did not just manage to attract people interested in getting tattoos but also those who wished to observe and understand the craft better. The expo proved to be successful in bridging the gap between the tattoo community and the general public, introducing a whole new perspective on this ancient form of art.

Lexington Tattoo Expo Continuation

The Lexington Tattoo Expo will continue at the Hilton Lexington/Downtown from 11:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. on Sunday, July 7. With the promising start and positive public response, the Lexington Tattoo Expo is expected to attract even more artists and visitors in its second day.
