Lexington Anticipates Severe Storms on Friday, Clear Weekend Ahead and High Temperatures Early Next Week

Storm approaching Kentucky city

One More Round of Strong-to-Severe Storms Anticipated This Friday

Weekend Weather to Expect

The city of Lexington in Kentucky is in for a weather ride this Friday. There is a level 1 severe risk across all of Central and Eastern Kentucky. Notably, damaging wind gusts pose the primary threat to the area. Torrential downpours can also be expected from the strongest storms, alongside potentially isolated rotating storms in the line of the moving storm system. Though the latter were observed as a very low threat, their possibility has been brought to light.

Friday’s storm outbreak, however, will not be an all-day affair. The cluster of storms will be moving from west to east during the morning and afternoon hours. The I-65 corridor region is expected to face the brunt during the morning hours, before the storm system extends towards the larger Lexington area by lunchtime.

Storms Clearing for the Weekend

On lookout for better skies, the weekend promises a respite from the storms. Temperatures on Saturday are expected to linger in the mid-80s, climbing into the mid-to-upper 80s by Sunday. The muggy humidity is set to reduce significantly over these two days, paving way for an overall wonderful end to the extended weekend.

Hot and Humid Weather Returns Early Next Week

However, early next week ushers in the return of high temperatures and humidity, with Monday’s forecast predicting a soar into the low-to-mid 90s. There is potential for an influx of tropical moisture by the end of the week, the specifics of which remain uncertain. This will be influenced by the ultimate course taken by the remnants of the now-Hurricane Beryl.

If the system disintegrates over southern Texas, the region will likely encounter added summer mid-day showers and the usual summer storms. But if the remnant area of low pressure works its way up to Lexington, there could be greater chances for heavy rainfall later next week.

Forecast Summary

  • FRIDAY: Midday and afternoon round of storms. Highs in the mid-to-upper 80s.
  • FRIDAY NIGHT: Rain chances alleviate, not as muggy. Lows in the 60s.
  • SATURDAY: Mostly sunny and feeling great. Highs in the mid-80s.

As the weather continues to change, residents are encouraged to remain alert. Forecast specifics remain unclear currently, particularly with regards to the incoming tropical weather system. In the meantime, expect a respite over the weekend, following the stormy Friday, and prepare for a hot and humid start early next week.
