University of Kentucky Retools Enrollment Deadline for Fall 2024 First-Year Students
Late Financial Aid Information marks Delay
The University of Kentucky (UK) has announced an extension of the deadline for enrolment of first-year students in the fall semester of 2024. Originally scheduled for May 1st, the new date will now be May 15th due to delays in the relay of essential financial aid information.
Recognising the challenges that these delays could pose for prospective students and their families making their college decisions, the University decided to extend the deadline to ensure adequate time for a well-informed decision.
Financial Aid Notification Delays
The delay has been majorly attributed to complications with the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) that has seen students and universities receive their requisite information later than usual. As such, the projected timeline for distributing financial aid notifications (FAN) is set for the close of April.
According to the University’s chief enrollment officer, Christine Harper, the extension is a necessary measure taken to ensure students have a comprehensive understanding of the cost of attendance before making a decision. Harper reassured that “the university is in the process of processing additional FAFSA information” to expedite the FANs to students.
What to expect for First-Year Students
Upon completion of their FAN processing, students will receive an electronic version detailing their aid package. As a result of the later processing, it should be noted that aid packages will not be distributed simultaneously to all students but instead sent in batches, with priority given to those who filed FAFSA first.
For those whose notifications extend past the rescheduled May 15th enrolment deadline, an additional seven days will be granted for confirmations. However, this extension privilege does not extend to students who filed their FAFSA after May 1st. Their confirmation will still be subject to the May 15th deadline.
While currently the only official extension announced, the email intimated that the University is currently considering the extension of other associated deadlines, including housing provisions.
