21-Year-Old Man Arrested for Sexual Assault on University of Kentucky Campus

Louisville – A 21-year-old man has been arrested in connection with a sexual assault that occurred on the University of Kentucky campus. Saif Al-Khafaji was taken into custody by the Louisville Airport Police on Saturday evening following an investigation into the assault that transpired early on November 10.

The incident took place near the intersection of Rose Street and Euclid Avenue, where the victim reported being attacked by an unknown individual while walking during the overnight hours. The University of Kentucky Police utilized the campus security camera system to identify Al-Khafaji as a suspect.

The university’s police department received the report regarding the assault on November 13, and a campus crime bulletin was subsequently issued on November 15. Following a description provided by the victim, police were able to link Al-Khafaji to a separate incident involving indecent exposure.

An arrest warrant was issued for Al-Khafaji in Fayette County on Thursday. He now faces charges of first-degree sexual abuse and second-degree indecent exposure. Authorities have confirmed that Al-Khafaji is not a student at the University of Kentucky.

In a statement, the university expressed its commitment to addressing sexual assaults, describing them as some of the most underreported crimes on college campuses. The administration highlighted ongoing efforts by UK Police to remove barriers for survivors reporting such incidents. An advocate can be reached at the Special Victims Unit by calling 859-257-8573, and survivors can access free and confidential support through the Violence and Intervention Prevention Center.

As is standard in such cases, the charges filed against Al-Khafaji are based on initial allegations and evidence, which have yet to be proven in court.
